A Northern Light

Five Star. Five Star. Five Star. Five Star. Five Star. Five Star. This book was amazing. This is a story of daughter of a farmer in 1906. One of the best historical fiction books I have ever read. Deal with issues like racism, murder, and following your dreams. Quite intense. A book you do not want to put down. Also taught me a lot about how life was way back when...

Mattie Gokie has big dreams. Huge dreams. Inconceivable dreams. Dreams that don't involve becoming the wife of a farmer, or staying in her small town. She wants to become a writer, and the chances are slim unless she can make it to New York.... but the chances of making it to New York are even slimmer. To earn some money she takes a job at a hotel, there she becomes burdened with a dangerous secret.  "Break a promise to the dead and they'll haunt you, Ada says. Keep the promise and they'll haunt you just the same." Mattie has some important and life changing decisions to make. But there is always a difference between what you should do, and what you want to do.
